Samsung's recently announced ATIV S Windows Phone 8 device is 'coming soon' to the UK phone retailer Phones 4U. On the Coming Soon page of their website it states that the ATIV S, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Note II and HTC Desire X are coming soon, with a form to keep updated on the releases. Unfortunately no specific dates have yet to be appear. Yesterday preorders for the device appeared on Expansys USA and Italy, however no price is given.
The ATIV S, which was announced at the Samsung Unpacked event at IFA 2012, is the first smartphone to run Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 operating system. The device features a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, a 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera on the rear of the device, and a 1.9 megapixel camera on the front, all housed in a brushed aluminum casing.
Nokia, who most expected would show off a Windows Phone 8 device first due to deals with Microsoft, decided to crash the party, with one Nokia employee calling the ATIV S just a "warm-up act" for the upcoming launch of new Lumia devices running Windows Phone 8.
