After a Java update I get an error message: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network or resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package jre1.7.0_09-c.msi in the box below." I cannot use anything that relies on Java, and I cannot uninstall the whole thing and install it once more because there is a new error message. What should I do?

Oracle's software is full of crap, unfortunately. You can use two applications to uninstall this service: JavaRA or Revo Uninstaller. The first one is dedicated solely to uninstalling and fixing issues in Java software, while the latter is a universal uninstaller. Remember to reboot your PC after each uninstallation to make sure every thing is alright.
