Opera Mail is now on its own
The first release of Opera's autonomous e-mail client has been revealed by the company. It is to be dropped from Opera Browser's new release and work on its own instead. How does it look exactly?
Based on the e-mail client that can be found in Opera 12, Opera Mail is supposed to work quickly, yet remain lighweight. The client offers all the features that the integrated client had, such as labelling, multiple tabs, filters and supporting threads.
Not only does Opera's client support protocols in POP3 and IMAP, but it also deals with a number of e-mail providers that aer web-based, such as Yahoo, Gmail, and Hotmail. The program is very easy to setup, as all you have to do is to type in your e-mail address and password. You can import all your e-mails from other clients with a simple setup wizard.
There is a distinctive thing when it comes to Opera Mail: this client integrates all the messages in just one database, instead of keeping them in various folders. Users can filter and view their messages by applying numerous tools that can be accessed from the sidebar on the left. While some of the filters are automatic, such as mail and attachments folders, users can also keep their e-mails in order by manually setting labels, or choosing certain threads that can be later quickly accessed.
All in all, this client is extremely easy in use, and you receive a welcome e-mail from Opera with a short guide around the program's features. There is also an extensive Help online file, in case you got lost. Opera Mail allows you its users to create tabs for changing their view easily, and it supports newsgroups and RSS feeds.
