NPD Software: Call of Duty Is On Top, Assassin's Creed Second

The NPD Group, the company which offers information on monthly hardware and video game sales for the United States market, has released figures for November that show the first person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops as being the best sold title for the period, with the action adventure Assassin's Creed coming in second. The software market has seen an increase of about 3 percent over the same period in 2009, with sales going up to 1.5 billion dollars, quite a healthy figure. This comes as the entire industry, which also includes hardware sales and accessories, is close to 3 billion and increasing by 8%. Call of Duty: Black Ops, developed by Treyarch and published by Activision Blizzard, has managed to sell more than 8.4 million units on the United States market, with one in four titles moved to customers during November being linked to the franchise. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood from Ubisoft has managed to come in second while another Ubisoft published game, the casual music based Just Dance 2, which launched exclusively for the Nintendo Wii, is on the third spot. Madden NFL, the American football simulation from EA Sports, has managed to continue its strong performance since it came out in August to take the fourth spot in the November sales chart, while Fable III, the Xbox 360 exclusive role playing game from Lionhead and Microsoft, came in fifth. Donkey Kong Country Returns has debuted on the sixth place. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit from Electronic Arts is at number seven, just ahead of another car-based title, Gran Turismo 5, which is exclusive to the PlayStation 3. NBA 2K11 is on the ninth place while Wii Fit Plus closes down the top ten. It's interesting to note that none of the titles in the top ten were directly powered by the Move or Kinect motion tracking device, which managed to perform well during the month in the accessories market.
