Microsoft Security Essentials Fails AV-Test's Certification For The Second Time
While the first defeat seemed more like a slip of a giant, repeating a low score proves there is certainly something wrong with MSSE. In the late November 2012 the program received fewer than 11 points in AV-Test's rank.
The results of the tests conducted by a German organisation, AV-Test are published every other month. 25 most popular anti-virus programs are marked accordingly to their performance when securing a PC against malicious software. The overall grade is given by adding up the points for protection, repair and usability.
Microsoft Security Essential got only 1.5 out of 6 points when it comes to protection. It was the worst result in the whole group. Since MSSE is, according to OPSWAT (Dec, 2012) one of the most popular system protection programs.
The podium was taken by Bitdefender: Internet Security 2013, Trend Micro's Titanium Security and F-Secure's Internet Security. When it comes to total freeware AVG got decent 14 points out of 18. Apart from MSSE, the test was failed by PC Tools Internet Security and AhnLab Internet Security 8.0.
