Steam occasionally goes offline for maintenance or experiences regional issues. If Steam is down, Marvel Rivals will also fail to connect.

Check Steam Status or Downdetector
Visit Steam’s official social media accounts for updates

Run as Administrator

This is one of the dumbest sounding fixed getting around, especially for Steam games but you'd be surprised how often it works.

Right-click the Steam shortcut on your desktop
Select Properties
Open the Compatibility tab
Check Run this program as an administrator
Click Apply and then OK
Launch Steam, then run Marvel Rivals

Verify Game Files

Missing or corrupted files can prevent the game from connecting properly.

Open Steam and navigate to your Library
Right-click Marvel Rivals and select Properties
Go to the Installed Files tab
Click Verify integrity of game files
Wait for the process to complete, then relaunch the game

Allow Through Windows Firewall

Your firewall may be blocking Marvel Rivals or Steam from accessing the network.

Open Control Panel
Go to System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall
Click Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall
Click Change settings
Enable Private and Public access for:
- Steam
- Steam Web Helper
Click OK

Clear Steam Download Cache

Corrupted cache files can interfere with connectivity.

Open Steam
Go to Settings > In Game
Click Delete Web Browser Data
Go to the Downloads section
Click Clear Download Cache
Restart Steam

Reinstall Marvel Rivals

If the above steps fail, a fresh install may help.

Open your Steam Library
Right-click Marvel Rivals > Uninstall
After the game is removed, click Install
Launch the game again and check for the error

Reset Network Settings

Another good fix if you've been messing around with Network settings at some stage.

Right-click Start and select Settings
Go to Network & Internet
Click Advanced network settings > Network reset
Click Reset Now and restart your PC
