Although dark mode is starting to become a standard feature on most modern devices and a selection of websites and apps. The bulk of the Internet is still a wasteland of bright white content. Thankfully, there are a few different ways you can manually add dark mode to these websites, forcing them to display content in an easy to view, eye-friendly format.
At this stage, there are a few things to take into account. Firstly, on the PC version of Brave, we can make this change quickly and easily using a couple of different methods. However, on the mobile version, there is only a single option to force websites to use dark mode. At least at the moment. Anyway, let’s jump straight into the options right now.
How do you force Brave browser to show all websites in dark mode? (PC)
On the PC version of Brave browser, there are a couple of different ways to achieve dark mode across all websites. The first is to use the built-in tools that are included in Brave. The second is to use an extension called Dark Reader.
- Option 1 - Built-in tools: First, open Brave on your device, then click the address bar and type or copy and paste brave://flags and press Enter.
- Next, use the search box at the top of the page and search Dark.
- Now change the drop-down box next to Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents Enabled. You can experiment with all the other options over time if you find the default one doesn’t work all that well. Each option is a different way of rendering dark mode for websites.
- To activate change, just restart Brave and the changes will take effect.
- Option 2 - Dark Reader: Although the built-in tools work pretty good I find the Dark Read extension for Chromium browser is still the pinnacle of dark modes. It can also be tailored to be enabled or disabled on whatever websites you want which is great as there are occasionally websites that just don’t work well in dark mode.
How do you force Brave browser to show all websites in dark mode? (MOBILE)
The process is a little different in the mobile version of Brave browser. You’ll need to do the following.
- First open settings, then scroll down and tap Appearance.
- Here make sure the toggle next to Enable “Night Mode” (Experimental) is On.
- Finally, tap the restart prompt and the change will take effect.
Note: You’ll probably also want to make sure the entire Brave interface is in Dark Mode. So tap Theme at the bottom of the Appearance page and make sure it is set to Dark.
Unfortunately, there isn't an option to use the Dark Reader Extension in Brave browser. The option browser that currently supports extensions is Firefox.
