Why Vertical Workspaces Matter

And since Short form content has become super popular Davinci Resolve has finally added a new option that makes editing vertical-style videos way easier than before!

How to Use Vertical Workspaces in DaVinci Resolve 20

By default, Resolve opens in a standard landscape timeline. But switching to a vertical layout is simple and unlocks a whole new UI tailored to portrait content. Previously working on vertical-style videos was a bit of a pain unless you had a dedicated vertical monitor. So to reconfigure the Resvole interface for optimised vertical video do the following.

  • Open your Timeline Settings.

  • Change your timeline resolution to something vertical, like 1080x1920.

  • Once you apply this, Resolve will automatically shift into a vertical-friendly workspace.

  • The UI will adapt, giving you more vertical space in the viewer.

  • This allows you to preview your vertical video in a full, upright format while still having your timeline accessible at the bottom. But this isn't anything new. Keep working through the steps to unlock the new timeline configuration.

  • On the right side of the viewer, you’ll see a new icon. Click it to expand your vertical preview to fill the screen.
