How to remove the G-SYNC ON overlay in games.
If you have recently updated NVIDIA Control Panel, GeForce Experience or your Graphics drivers, you may have noticed that you now have a G-SYNC ON icon stuck in the top left-hand corner of your screen. What’s more annoying, is that you’ve probably checked all the usual places that would typically remove the stupid overlay but none of them works or exists anymore.

There are a lot of very useful overlays that you can use to monitor and improve the way you interact and play games. You can easily add FPS (frames per second) counters, ping, latency and connection widgets, and just about any other statistic, you can dream of. Although all of these are super handy to track how well your game is running, there are some overlays that are completely, useless and just get in the way.
For example, if you own a G-SYNC cable monitor and an NVIDIA GPU, you may have seen a very intrusive G-SYNC ON icon/overlay in the top left-hand section of the screen. Just to confirm, the screenshot below shows exactly what we mean. Although in the past there was always a way to quickly and easily remove this annoying overlay, there seems to be a big that totally removes the ability to hide it.
What’s worse is that it seems to randomly set itself to active after NVIDIA Control Panel or GeForce Experience updates (I haven’t figured out which one). Thankfully, there is a solution to turn off/remove the G-SYNC ON overlay in the top left-hand corner of the screen. The process is simple enough but does require a fair amount of effort.
- Download Geforce Experience (don’t install)
- Uninstall your Graphics drivers (Display Drivers) using DDU
- When your computer restarts, install Geforce Experience and new drivers.
- The G-SYNC ON icon/overlay should now be gone.

As you would have already tried the usual steps to fix this issue from the NVIDIA Control Panel I’m not going to go over them again, as they obviously haven’t worked. The main issue seems to be that the option to remove the icon is gone, yet the overlay was enabled… To remove the G-SYNC ON you’re going to have to completely remove your GPU drives, GeForce Experience and NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Before you remove your graphics drivers and software go to the NVIDIA website and download GeForce Experience. You’ll need this file in a few steps time.
- Now head on over to the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) website and download the version that corresponds with your system. Next, install it and run it on your computer.
- When it opens, adjust the settings to remove ‘settings and cached data’ (your choices here) Just avoid any of the ones it suggests not to touch.
- Once DDU has finished running, let it Restart your computer. When you sign back in, install GeForce Experience on your computer, then download the latest NVIDIA drivers and install them from the GeForce Experience drivers page.
- When everything is installed, one more Restart is required. When you log back in the G-SYNC ON icon will be removed from your system.
Now that everything is sorted, you shouldn’t have any more issues with the overlay appearing in games. Though we can’t rule out bugs on future updates.
