Over the years Microsoft has become a lot more open to making cosmetic changes to the way the operating system looks and feels. Although most of these changes are only minor, they do help make a Windows 10 installation feel like your own. This brings us to today’s guide, which will show you how to remove the annoying extra Dropbox icon placed in the Windows File Explorer navigation pane.
Before you start this process there are a few things you need to consider especially if you decide to only use the Registry version without the batch file. If you only follow this step, every time you start, stop or update Dropbox the DropboxSystem.IsPinnedToNamespaceTree value of 0 will default to 1. With the batch file in place to run at system boot, the icon will automatically be removed on system startup.

How Do You Remove the Dropbox Icon From the Navigation Pane in File Explorer on Windows 10?
If you plan to use the Batch File method (recommended), you’ll need to download the batch file from our Google Drive link here: Download ZIP File From Google Drive. Once you have downloaded the zip file to a location on your computer, extract it then prepare to copy it to the Windows 10 Startup folder.
To access the Windows 10 Startup folder press the Windows Key + R to open the Run tool. Next type shell:startup into the text box and press Enter. This will open the startup folder where you can copy and paste the Remove Dropbox From Navigation Pane.cmd file. After you have done this, a system Restart will activate the batch file.

Before starting the steps shown below, it is important to make sure you have created a System Restore Point, in case you need to revert back to a previous system state. If you’ve never created a restore point before do the following. Open the start menu, type Restore, then select Create a Restore Point when it appears on the list. In the new window that appears on the screen, click Create in the bottom right section of the screen, then follow the on-screen instructions. Once you have a restore point set, continue with the steps shown below.
With a safe point set, open the Windows Registry Editor by pressing Windows Key + R, then type regedit into the Run tool text box and press Enter. When you have the tool open in front of you, navigate to the following location using the left-hand pane of the Registry Editor.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID\{E31EA727-12ED-4702-820C-4B6445F28E1A}
Note: If you don’t have a key (folder) under the above location, simply create one by going to New > Key.
When you get to the correct location, double-click the System.IsPinnedToNamespaceTree 32-bit DWORD entry and change its Value from 1 to 0. Once done the icon will be removed. However will return each and every time you start your computer, which is why the batch file is required to automate the process.
