If you are trying to record games including all of your Xbox Game Bar interactions using OBS you've probably noticed that Xbox Game Bar doesn't record in OBS Studio by default. Thankfully there is a quick and easy way to configure OBS to Record Game Bar using OBS on Windows 10 and 11.

By default, OBS won't record the Xbox Game Bar overlay on PC. Whenever you bring up Game Bar it is hidden in all OBS recordings. While this is super handy if you don't want to show everyone on your streams or recordings your data. There are some situations where you may need or want to show what's going on in the Game Bar. Thankfully there's a simple toggle you can enable or disable that will allow you to share or hide the Xbox Game Bar from OBS recordings.

• First open OBS and make sure you have a source set up (Display Capture for example)
• Now right-click on this source and select Properties.
• This will open a new window where you'll need to change Capture Method from Automatic to Windows 10.
• Finally, click OK then save the changes.

As soon as you make the Change OBS will be able to Record the Xbox Game Bar and some of the other overlays you might be using. Just keep in mind that every single thing inside of the overlay will be visible so if you're streaming you need to be aware of this.

This includes contextual tips and guides for an expanding list of popular PC games such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Diablo IV, Fortnite, Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga, League of Legends, Minecraft, Overwatch 2, Roblox, and Valorant, among others. The feature isn’t enabled by default, so if you’d like to use it, you’ll need to install the Game Bar Widget which you can learn how to install right here.

Customizing Your Xbox Game Bar for OBS

If you're going to be recording your Xbox Game Bar use you'll want to make sure that you have things configured correctly. Otherwise, it will be a cluttered mess.

• Adjust Overlay Positioning: Depending on the game and the context of your recording, you may want to reposition or resize widgets within the Game Bar. This ensures that they don’t obstruct important parts of your gameplay.
• Enable Transparency: If you find the overlay too distracting, you can enable transparency for widgets like performance monitors or chat windows.
• Optimize Notifications: If you receive frequent messages or alerts, consider temporarily disabling them to avoid interruptions. Alternatively, customize which notifications appear.
