When notifications first became a thing they were a great way to improve the functionality of devices, apps and software and brought an important new quality of life feature to their service/product. However fast forward a few years and notifications have been abused to the point where most people ignore them because of their trivial nature or advertising goals. All is not lost though!
Having notifications read out allowed to you can be a super helpful feature at certain times, especially when you are driving or otherwise occupied. However, they can also be super annoying sometimes. Especially when they interrupt you listening to music, audiobooks, or when you are just generally not in the mood to hear every single notification coming in.
Thankfully, there is a quick and easy way to disable this feature and prevent your iPhone from reading notifications out loud over your Airpods. This means that notifications will still be read aloud (if you have the volume up) when you don’t have headphones/AirPods connected to your iPhone. Before you begin, make sure that you are using the latest version of iOS available for your device. This will guarantee that the feature/option is available for you.
How do you turn off iPhone Announced Notifications when using AirPods or headphones? Prevent AirPods (headphones) from reading notifications on iPhone.
- To begin, open the Settings app on your iPhone, then go down and find the Notifications section.
- On the new screen that appears tap on the Announce notifications option.
- This will take you to another new page where you will see a list of options including a Headphones option. Flip the toggle next to this to Off and the change will take effect.
- Now, whenever you get a notification when your headphones are connected your phone won’t read the notifications out aloud to you. Instead, they will just flash across the screen
Note: Disabling iPhone notification reading when using AirPods or headphones will only be available if the main function Announce Notifications option is turned on.
