When it comes to playing Starfield, the ability to move your saves between Steam and Xbox can be incredibly convenient. However, this doesn’t exist by default, because Bethesda didn’t include any cross-save systems. Something you’d expect to be standard in 2023. So in this guide, we will walk you through the process of moving your saves in both directions. Transferring saves from Steam to Xbox and Xbox to Steam. Just be aware that the process isn’t exactly simple.
Moving Starfield Saves From Steam to Xbox (Game Pass).
If you've been playing Starfield on Steam and want to continue your game on Xbox, follow these steps. Just make sure you make a backup of your save files before you start. You can find them under. You may need to go a little deeper to find the exact flles but this will get you close.

- First head on over to GitHub and download Starfield XGP Import (get the latest version).
- If the .exe version doesn’t work try the .zip version.
- Once you have the file extract it. You’ll notice a file called main.py This is a Python format file so you will need Python installed on your device. So download Python Here.
Note: When you install Python for the first time you should see something called adding to path. Make sure you have that box ticked otherwise, it won’t work.
- Now that you have everything downloaded and installed go to the extracted Save Extractor folder, then click the address bar and type cmd and press Enter. This will open CMD pointed to that exact folder.
- Now type python main.py into the command window but don't press Enter.
- Then drag and drop the save file (only 1) you want to convert into the same command window from the original Steam Save folder (Documents > My Games > Starfield > Saves)
- Finally, press Enter and the tool will convert the save files and place them inside the correct Xbox Starfield save folder. You can view the exact location and folder name in the command window.
If you want to convert more save files you will have to run the same process again with the new save file you wish to convert.
Manual Progress Tracking. (Achievements)
- Unfortunately, moving from Steam to Xbox is not straightforward due to the differences in save formats. You may need to manually recreate your progress on the Xbox platform. Basically, none of your achievements will transfer across so you will have to replay everything if you want to get the achievements.
