For quite a long time now there has been an annoying big on Windows 11 which causes the Taskbar to get stuck behind programs. This forces you to minimise everything you have on the screen to access the start menu or anything else on the Taskbar which is super annoying. If you are kind of lucky like me and this only happens once in a blue moon you can simply restart your computer and it will go away, usually for months. However, if you're in a rush and just want a quick fix restarting Explorer can quite often give you the same effect without a full Restart.
- Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Find Windows Explorer under the Processes tab.
- Right-click on it and select Restart.
- Alternatively, you can reset the Taskbar by running a batch script.
Check for Windows Updates
Since a Windows 11 Update probably introduced this super annoying bug you can cross your fingers and hope that a future Windows update will get rid of the bug. But I wouldn't bet on it as some Windows bugs have been around for years...
- Open Settings (Win + I).
- Go to Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
Toggle the "Automatically Hide the Taskbar" Option
Oddly doing this works sometimes which leads me to believe that this exact option is the option that the bug is affecting... Either way, give it a go and see if it fixes the problem for you.
- Open Settings (Win + I).
- Go to Personalization > Taskbar.
- Expand Taskbar behaviours.
- Toggle Automatically hide the taskbar on and off.
- Restart your computer and check if the issue persists.
Change Display Resolution
Honestly, I haven't had any success with this option but quite a few people have so give it a go and see what happens on your device. Usually, you can just change the Resolution and switch it straight back and the problem will go away. At least that's the theory behind the process.
- Open Settings (Win + I).
- Navigate to System > Display.
- Select the Recommended resolution from the drop-down menu.
- If it's already set to Recommended, switch to a different resolution and then revert.
Update or Reinstall the Graphics Card Driver
This solution isn't exactly one that should target an issue like this but it's worth a shot anyway and might fix a few other issues you are having, especially if you are a gamer.
- Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) from the official website.
- Run the program and choose to remove GeForce Experience (GFE) if prompted.
- Restart your PC after the process is complete.
- Reinstall the latest GPU drivers, ensuring a stable internet connection to prevent Windows from installing generic drivers.
- Reinstall GeForce Experience (if applicable) and update your drivers as needed.
- If issues persist, repeat the steps.
How to Unhide the Taskbar in Windows 11
If your Taskbar stays missing all the time you might have accidentally enabled the Auo-Hide option so just check to see that this isn't what's causing the issue on your computer.
- Open Settings (Win + I).
- Go to Personalization > Taskbar.
- Expand Taskbar behaviours.
- Uncheck the "Automatically hide the taskbar" option.
