How to Fix Mods Not Working in inZOI

There are a lot of different ways you can deal with broken mods and mods breaking games and most of these fixes will work for any game that you are currently modding. However, this guide will specifically focus on modding inZOI. The most important thing to be aware of when modding is that you will need to be flexible and realistic. Mods are very pretentious things, especially in new-release games.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT MODDING inZOI

This is the most important section in the entire guide, understanding why mods stop working and why the game keeps crashing. Modding is fun but can also be super annoying, especially since game updates frequently break mods, leading to crashes. To keep things running smoothly, you’ll need to stay on top of mod updates, disabling or removing mods that no longer work or aren't being maintained.

Updating mods is simple, just locate the mod, click the drop-down menu next to it, and select "Update." In most cases, an icon will indicate when an update is available.

Most importantly, don’t get too attached to mods! Many mods eventually lose support, forcing you to stop using them. This is just the natural cycle of modding! If a mod keeps breaking the game disable it and look for something similar.

Game Crashes on Launch or During Gameplay

If inZOI is crashing randomly there are 4 main reasons this might be happening and it's more than likely a broken mod. But figuring out which mod is always a pain in the butt.

• Check for Mod Conflicts: Disable all mods and re-enable them one by one to identify the problematic mod.

• Ensure Game Version Compatibility: Mods need to match the game’s current version. Check if your mods are updated.

• Verify Game Files: Use Steam’s "Verify Integrity of Game Files" option to restore any missing or corrupted files. (This is something you should get in a habit of doing after removing any problematic mod)

• Check Load Order: Some mods must be loaded in a specific order. Use Vortex’s load order tools. I primarily use Vortex these days because it does a really good job of automating the load order which is where most issues stem from. So if you have been using the manual method it might be time to switch.

Mods Not Working or Not Showing Up in Game

Unfortunately, even if you follow all of the steps listed below you might not be able to get the mods working. This is usually because the game has been updated and has broken the mod. The only way this will be fixed is if the mod creator updates the mod files to work with the new version of the game. However, if the mods are up to date make sure you have followed the steps below.

• Enable Mods in Vortex: Make sure all mods are enabled and deployed.

• Check Installation Path: Mods should be placed in the correct folder. Specifically, the one that the mod says it needs to be in.

• Missing Dependencies: Some mods require other mods to function. Read the mod descriptions and install any required files.

inZOI Freezes or Runs Poorly After Installing Mods

As always this might just be a single broken mod. I generally disable all mods and enable 5 at a time until I find the group of 5 that has the issue, then narrow it down further from there. Once I find the bad mod I check for updates or disable it.

• Reduce Mod Load: Too many mods running at once can cause performance issues. Disable unnecessary mods.

• Check for Script-Heavy Mods: Mods that modify AI behaviour or add scripts can slow down the game.

• Optimize Graphics Settings: Some texture and environment mods can be performance-heavy. Lowering graphics settings may help.

In-Game Textures or Objects Look Broken or Glitchy

• Update or Reinstall the Mod: Some texture mods require a specific resolution setting or game update.

• Clear Shader Cache: Deleting the shader cache files may fix rendering issues.'

Sometimes mods just break things so you might need to reconsider using them.
