Especially if you are coming back to the game after Early Access. So to assist players with the full release of Baldur’s Gate 3, we’ve compiled a list of fixes and troubleshooting steps.
How do you fix Baldur’s Gate 3 Load Issues? Delete any Early Access Saves
Your Early Access saves and player profiles aren’t compatible with the release version of Baldur’s Gate 3, and leaving them in your save folders could cause issues. Note: Simply deleting the game’s save folder may create conflicts when either Steam Cloud or Larian Cloud re-downloads the save files.
You find the Baldur’s Gate Save Files location here: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story
If you want to make a full backup before clearing everything.
- Open Baldur’s Gate 3.
- On the main menu, click Load Game.
- Click through old campaigns and select Delete Campaign.
This method will ensure your saves are deleted from your computer as well as from the cloud.
If you played in patch 6 or earlier, browse to the '..\Documents\Larian Studios' folder and delete the 'Baldur's Gate 3' subfolder.
Uninstall the Early Acces Version of Baldur's Gate 3 to Fix Game Save Issues.
Having the Early Access version of Baldur’s Gate 3 installed will affect your installation of the full game. Due to the game being in Early Access, we’re unable to offer pre-loads, as this would break existing Early Access saves.
- In the Steam client, open your Steam Library.
- Right-click Baldur’s Gate 3.
- From the menu that appears, select Manage > Uninstall.
- After uninstalling, browse to the '..\SteamApps\common\Baldurs Gate 3' folder (or similar path for GOG), and delete anything remaining in the folder, or the folder itself.
This method will ensure your saves are deleted from your computer as well as from the cloud.
Delete All Mods - Redownload New Compatible Ones.
A lot of the mods on offer for the Early Access version of the game are causing issues with the full version of the game so make sure you disable and delete any of these old mods or update them if a newer compatible version is available.
Check the 'Mods' and 'Public' folders in the '..\SteamApps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data' folder, etc; and if present, both folders are safe to delete. If applicable, you can also delete the modsettings.lsx file in the profile folder.
If you are using Vortex from Nexus just manage your mods appropriated from there.
You are also going to need to check the local AppData folder for the current user account: 'C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3’ as any old mod files may have been copied over to there. To do this, copy the following line into the location bar in Explorer and hit Enter: %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods Delete any files you find there.
If the launcher is giving a data mismatch warning, it should have created a log file listing any files in the install folder that are not expected as well as files in the Mods folder. To check, copy the following line into the location bar in Explorer and hit Enter:
%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Launcher\Cache
Then, look for a text file named:
steam_<VersionNumber>_alteredFiles.txt (or similarly, starting with 'galaxy_', for the GOG version).
