How to Fix Controller Causing Lag and Stuttering in Ghost of Tsushima.
Ghost of Tsushima was recently released on PC and is proving to be super popular even after the drama with Sony recently. While the game runs quite well for such an early release some people have been having issues with controller lag and stuttering when playing wirelessly. Most of the time it's a fairly easy fix though, so follow along as we guide you through the steps for both PlayStation and Xbox controllers.
How to Fix Controller Lag in Ghost of Tsushima on Steam.
Though it probably sounds dumb, this issue is super common in modern games and controllers can and do cause lag and FPS drops. Typically, this happens because of low battery levels, but outdated firmware is also a major cause as the controller is constantly connecting and disconnecting so the game doesn't know what's going on. It is quite a common issue in Horizon Zero Dawn, Star Wars Fallen Order, and Forza 5. Before you start the steps below, just make sure that you have tried using brand-new batteries.
Manually Update Your Xbox Controller Firmware.
-
Install the Xbox Accessories app from the Microsoft Store.
-
Once installed, open the app and connect your controller using a USB cable.
-
If an update is available you will have the option to download it. If nothing appears you have the latest version available. Make sure you do not disconnect the controller during this period you don't want to brick your device. The update can take between 5 and 10 minutes so be prepared to wait.
-
After the update completes, close the app. Then, go to Settings > Devices, and remove your Xbox Controller from the list of devices. Restart your computer, reconnect your controller, and you should experience smoother gameplay without major FPS lag in your games. Restart your computer as well, then pair your controller with your computer again.
Update PS5 Wireless Controller Firmware.
-
To update your PS5 controller firmware you’ll need to install the app on your Windows PC. You can download the app here.
-
Once you have installed the Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controllers open it and connect your controller using the USB cable.
-
Now follow the steps shown, and confirm the request to download additional software (the firmware update). Make sure you do not disconnect your controller or turn off your PC during this process.
