In order to fix this problem you will need to delete some files from your computer in particular the PlayerProfiles folder. However, before you jump in and do this I suggest you make a backup if you aren’t using Steam or Larian Cloud saves you will lose all of your save data.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Local Save Files location:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story

  • Now that you have backed up your save files open File Explorer and navigate to the following location:

C:\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\BaldursGate3\PlayerProfiles

  • Once you are inside the PlayerProfiles folder delete everything and Restart your computer. When your computer restarts you’ll be able to launch the game without issue.

IMPORTANT: When you launch the game you may be asked about which save data you wish to use. Choose your cloud save data if you are using Steam and/or Larian Studios client. This will make sure you get the correct save files in your game.

If you were using local save files you can now go back to:
