How to Fix Audio Issues in Monster Hunter Wilds
While Monster Hunter Wilds broke numerous records upon release and has been receiving positive reviews for its gameplay and story, it is also one of the most poorly optimized games in recent years. Performance issues are severe, with frequent crashes, massive frame rate drops, and, unusually, significant audio problems. While graphical and performance-related issues are fairly common in games, audio issues are much rarer, making this an especially frustrating situation for players. Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to fix and/or reduce these problems or at least reduce their impact in Monster Hunter Wilds.
How to Fix Audio Issues in Monster Hunter Wilds
Windows 10:
-
Click the Start button.
-
Right-click the Sound icon in the bottom right corner.
-
Select Sounds.
Windows 11:
-
Click the Start button.
-
Type Control Panel and open it.
-
Navigate to Hardware and Sound > Sound.
- In the Playback Tab make sure that your correct audio device (speakers or headphones) has a checkmark next to it. If another device (such as a phone) is selected, find your speakers or headphones, right-click them, and choose Set as Default Communication Device.
-
If your correct device is not selected, right-click it and choose Set as Default Device.
-
Once selected, the right-click menu options should no longer appear.
Disable Spatial Sound
With the Sounds tab open do the following.
-
Right-click your audio device and select Properties.
-
Navigate to the Spatial Sound tab.
-
Ensure that Spatial Sound is set to Off.
-
If third-party apps (e.g., Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos) are installed, disable them.
-
Click Apply and OK.
Disable Audio Enhancements
-
Open your audio device Properties.
-
Navigate to the Enhancements tab.
-
Check the box for Disable all enhancements.
-
Click Apply and OK.
Adjust In-Game Audio Settings
-
Launch Monster Hunter Wilds.
-
Go to Options > Audio.
-
Disable Voice Chat.
-
Set Voice Chat Auto Toggle to Do Not Prioritize.
-
Under Audio Mixing, select Night Mode for better voice clarity in cutscenes.
Check 3D Audio and Output Mode
-
If 3D Audio is enabled in the game’s Sound Output settings, try disabling it.
-
In Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound, check your Audio Output Device Properties.
-
Ensure that the Output Mode is set to Stereo (Two Channels) instead of 7.1 Surround Sound.
-
If using high-end headphones (e.g., Razer, Logitech), open their software and disable 7.1 Surround Sound or other virtual surround sound features.
Wait for the game to get Patched
These kinds of issues are pretty normal for newly released games and a good percentage of them are solved in the first few major updates. So if you are having so many issues the game is unenjoyable to play maybe just wait until a few patches have fixed the problems. That said if your computer isn't up to the task of running the game you might just want to get a refund until you can upgrade your computer.
