Auto-Complete is one of the more useful features that can be found in a range of different programs and apps on a range of different devices. Most people find the feature quite useful as it generally speeds up processes, however, it isn’t for everyone. The biggest issue with the feature is accidentally selecting the wrong address from a list that may have similar entries.
Thankfully, if you are an Outlook user who really doesn’t care for the Auto-Complete Address feature suggesting addresses for the To and Cc fields, this guide will show you how to disable it. Alternatively, if you don’t want to completely disable it, you can empty all of the suggestions or remove individual suggestions.

How Do You Disable Address Auto-Complete in Outlook?
To begin, open Outlook and click File in the top left-hand corner of the main window, then click Options located in the sidebar. On the main Outlook Options page change to the Mail tab in the left-hand pane and scroll down to Send Messages in the central pane.
To disable Auto-Complete simply Untick the ‘Use Auto-Complete List to suggest names when typing in the To, Cc, and Bcc lines’ checkbox. This will completely disable the Address Auto-Complete feature in Outlook. If at any stage you wish to turn it back on simply return to this location and place a tick back in the box.
How Do You Clear the Entire Contents of Address Auto-Complete in Outlook?
As all good email services do Outlook keeps track of email addresses you have used in the past and stores them in its Auto-Complete database. However, if you find this feature annoying, especially when it stores one-off email addresses, here’s how to clear the current database to start fresh.
To clear the list open Outlook and click File in the top left-hand corner of the main window, then click Options located in the sidebar. Now on the main Outlook Options page change to the Mail tab in the left-hand pane and scroll down to Send Messages in the central pane and click the Empty Auto-Complete List. Finally, confirm the clearing of data and you’re done!
How Do You Remove Individual Entries From the Address Auto-Complete List in Outlook?
If you would rather simply remove a single entry or two you can do the following. First create a new email, then in either the To or Cc box of an open message window, start typing the name you want to remove. When you see the name/email address appear, click the X or press Delete with the entry highlighted and it will be removed from the list.
