Galaxy Nexus Officially Introduced by Verizon
Although rumors about Galaxy Nexus' upcoming availability via Verizon Wireless have come and gone, the operator did not confirm that it will carry the smartphone until recently.
Those expecting an official statement from Verizon will be happy to know that the carrier has just announced the Galaxy Nexus by Samsung will soon arrive in stores.
No release date or price options have been announce yet, but rumors has it that the superphone will be available in early November for $300 (216 EUR) with a new two-year agreement.
According to Verizon, Android fans who order the Galaxy Nexus smartphone will need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan beginning at $39.99 for monthly access and a smartphone data package starting at $30 monthly access for 2 GB of data.
The world’s first smartphone running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Galaxy Nexus by Samsung will be available in selected Verizon stores and online.
More importantly, Verizon confirmed that the Galaxy Nexus will be delivered with full 4G LTE support for its network, which should offer customers fast download speeds of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps in 4G LTE mobile broadband coverage areas.
Aside many innovative features, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich customers will be provided with a redesigned user interface with enhanced multitasking, notifications, full Web browsing experience and more.
One of the interesting new features demoed during the platform's launch event is called Face Unlock and uses facial recognition to unlock the smartphone.
Even though Samsung and Google are touting the Galaxy Nexus as the first smartpone to feature an HD Super AMOLED display, LG has also debuted the Optimus LTE, which comes with a similar HD (but IPS) display, though it's slightly smaller.
Galaxy Nexus has a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with oleophobic surface and supports for 16 million colors and 720 x 1280 pixels resolution.
The superphone is equipped with a 1.2 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor, 16GB (32GB) of internal memory, and 1GB of RAM.
