Four of the Best Alternative Ways to Identify Songs If You Can’t Use Shazam.
If you are looking for an alternative way to find out the name of a song without using Shazam or one of the other Shazam like alternatives, this article will guide you through some of the other more interesting options available online.
Four of the Best Screen Recording Apps on Android.
Under normal circumstances identifying music using Shazam, Google Assistant or SoundHound is the quickest and easiest way to find out the name of a song and the artist who sings it. But what happens if you can’t play the song and only have the beat, tone, or some words stuck in your head?
If you do find yourself in a situation where you can’t use Shazam or an alternative because you only have a rough tune in your head or a few words, check out some of the following alternatives. Some of which will let you hum the tune, sing what you remember or guess based on keywords you enter.
Suggestion 1: Reddit’s NameThatSong SubReddit.
If you ever find yourself looking for information on a particular topic, Reddit is one of the best places online to search for content. In the case of music, things are even easier with a special community ready and waiting to answer all your poorly worded song lyric questions. However, before you post something to the subreddit, make sure you spend a little bit of time reading the rules on how to format your posts for the best results.
If you are feeling brave enough, you can even upload a short clip of yourself singing that tune. On the odd chance you are unlucky in the Name That Song SubReddit and don't get any information, you can also check out the Tipofmytounge subreddit for a second opinion. Once again before entering, make sure you read through the rules.
Suggestion 2: Identification of Music Group (IOM) Facebook Group.
If you don’t have any luck on Reddit there is a similar group on Facebook that has been created to help people find out the name of music they can’t identify using other methods. The group has a strict list of rules to follow and has a pretty solid track record for banning, booting, and blocking spammers, trolls, and other degenerates. So make sure you have read the rules before you go asking silly questions.
It’s also a good idea to spend a few minutes using the search option before asking any questions. Although the group is closed and doesn't tolerate garbage, it's a very good place to find exactly what you are looking for, as the 95,000 plus users have a great collective source of music knowledge.
Suggestion 3: Find Music By Lyrics.
If you don’t want to wait around for forums to reply to your questions, you can also check out a website called Find Music By Lyrics, which has an optimized search specifically designed for finding music lyrics. If you’re skeptical, you can try a few test searches using Google and Find Music By Lyrics, in most cases you’ll find that Google has a much broader results list.
Suggestion 4: WatZatSong.
The final option you can use to find out the name of any tunes stuck in your head is called WatZatSong and is my personal favorite option. It’s also the most entertaining! WatZatSong is community-based and requires you to record a quick audio clip of yourself singing the best version of the song stuck in your head, then uploading it for the community to identify.
While you wait for the community to get back to you, you can spend a little time helping out by listening to and identifying other user uploads. To start using WatZatSong simply create an account, click Post a Sample, sing a song, upload the audio, then wait for a response. How long it takes to get a response is anyone's guess, based on how much of the song you sang and how well you sang it, though if you're not completely tone deaf like me, it shouldn’t take to long at all.
