Asus has recently confirmed that it will deploy the latest Android 3.2 Honeycomb software update on all Eee Pad Transformer devices starting today.
The official announcement came via Twitter several hours ago and informs fans of the tablet that the update will land on July 28th.
The unexpectedly popular tablet is about to receive the last Honeycomb update that will be launched by Google before announcing the Ice Cream Sandwich unifying mobile platform.
Among the new features and function added by the Android 3.2 Honeycomb update, the “compatibility zoom” seems to be one of the most interesting.
This option enables tablet users to view smartphone apps that are not optimized to work on tablets more refined.
It looks like Google managed to make this option far more pleasant, as the smartphone apps are not stretched to fit the screen, instead Android 3.2 Honeycomb uses pixel-scaling.
As expected, another major improvement of Android 3.2 is the ability to support smaller-sized screens, which means that manufacturers who launched 7-inch tablets in the past will now be able to deploy Honeycomb platform on their devices.
Some of the new features and enhancements offered by Android 3.2 Honeycomb are detailed below:
- Optimizations / refinements across a wider range of tablets;
- Compatibility Zoom (another option for viewing phone apps on tablets);
- Load media directly from a removable SD card;
- Extended screen support API (more fine-tuned UI control across Android displays).
In addition, it is rumored that several new features are 'hidden' within the update such as the pinch to zoom included on the touch pad for dock users and Netflix which is presumably going official with its application.
Moreover, the update also adds loads of developer-oriented improvements, as well as minor fixes and enhancements, which are usually unveiled through applications updates.
