Only a few weeks ago, Google announced that the number of activated Android devices had reached 700,000 a day.
While that number was pretty impressive, the number of activations that Google registered for the Christmas weekend was far greater.
Google SVP of Mobile Andy Rubin announced on Twitter that the number of activations reached 3.7 million on Saturday and Sunday alone. “UPDATE: There were 3.7M Android devices activated on 12/24 and 12/25,” he tweeted.
Once again, this shows that Android is currently a highly appealing mobile OS, and that its position at the top of the market is strengthening.
According to some of the latest reports on the matter, Android is en-route to grab over 55 percent of the smartphone market during the next year, far more than what rival iOS would be able to.
